El Dorado County Hazardous Vegetation Management and Defensible Space Complaint Form

El Dorado County's updated Hazardous Vegetation Management and Defensible Space Ordinance, under Chapter 8.09, became effective August 16, 2024. In accordance with Chapter 8.09, defensible space inspections are conducted both proactively in focused inspection areas and in response to citizen complaints within the unincorporated areas of El Dorado County.

Chapter 8.09 does not apply to incorporated areas of the County. To submit a vegetation or defensible space related complaint for the cities of Placerville or South Lake Tahoe, please see below:

Additional Information:

  • All complaint submissions are confidential.
  • Please fill in all required fields.
  • Complaints will only be accepted on the official County complaint form.  The form may be submitted electronically, in person, or by U.S. mail.  Complaints will not be accepted via telephone.
  • Only one property of concern per complaint form.
  • All correspondence related to a complaint, such as photographs, should be attached to the complaint form at submission.
  • Inspections resulting from a complaint will likely result in inspection of neighboring properties, including the property of the reporting party.
  • Anonymous complaints will not be accepted.

What happens after I submit a complaint?

You will receive a confirmation email after submittal. A Defensible Space Inspector will review your complaint and will follow up via phone call. Please allow up to 2-3 weeks for your complaint to be processed.

In accordance with County Ordinance, Chapter 8.09.086 Confidentiality in Connection with Citizen Complaints:  The County shall take all reasonable steps to ensure that the identity of any person making a complaint to the County concerning a violation of the Code or other applicable laws shall remain confidential. It is declared and found by the Board that the public interest served by not making the information public clearly outweighs the public interest served by disclosure of the information as is required by the Public Records Act. It shall be a misdemeanor to knowingly file a false complaint.
